WOMEN'S SPORTS CARES TO PROVIDE EQUIPMENT TO KIDS
Remember how you felt when you opened one of your Christmas
gifts and saw a baseball glove? A football helmet? A tennis
racquet? Founder and CEO, Catherine Masters of the National
Women's Football Association does. And, she's decided to help
spread that feeling around to more kids. Kids, she says, that
more than likely don't have any sports equipment.
So, she's formed a new organization called "Women's Sports
Cares." Her idea is to get the fans around the country that
support women's sports to bring used (but in good condition)
sports equipment to the games. The first group to do this will
be the National Women's Football Association, of which Masters
is the CEO.
"We've got 35 teams around the country who have thousands of
fans and if just a portion of those fans bring in equipment to
the games, lots of kids will have sports equipment." In the
NWFA, the teams will select local boys and girls clubs and
charities and give the donated equipment to them as it's
collected. On the national level, Masters is going to talk to
most of the major manufacturers and see if she can get them to
donate items that are no longer being marketed or sold. "As a
former executive in the sports world and a retailer, I know
that many sports equipment companies have items they could
contribute. My job will be to get them to do it," she adds.
The main national charity for Women's Sports Cares is the
world famous Boys and Girls Town in Omaha, Nebraska. They are
in need of a lot of things from athletic shoes to equipment.
"These children's groups go a long way in helping to mold
young minds and I believe that sports is one of the best
teachers around. All of the mental skills associated with
sports can help these kids become pretty special adults," she
adds.
For more information on Women's Sports Cares or to donate
sporting equipment, please visit

The NWFA has been featured in more than 250 major publications

Pizza, CNBC, MSNBC, CNN, Inside Edition, SPIKE TV, Bet's MAAD
Sports, The New York Times, The LA Times, Nickelodeon, the
